It’s All About Promotion On Tuesday Evening

By Sam Elliott

The National League leadership has changed hands more than many can remember this season.

Tonight it could be back in the grasp of Leyton Orient, days after they surrendered top spot.

A point against Eastleigh thanks to their superior goal different will again overhaul Salford, who took over on Saturday after they won at Maidstone and the O’s drew with FC Halifax.

Orient will be backed by big numbers - tickets for the game have been slashed to just £5 to ensure an eclectic atmosphere.

That’s one of three matches tonight.

Gateshead know they must take advantage of the lack of action for the other side vying for a play-off place.

A win for the Tynesiders at home to AFC Fylde will see them leapfrog Sutton - potentially only a point behind seventh placed Eastleigh, providing they leave East London empty handed that is.

But Fylde need points too. Their win against the Spitfires was the first in five and they aren’t sure of a promotion place finish quite yet.

Maidstone United became the second side to be relegated at the weekend.

They followed Braintree into the National League South but John Still wants them to play for pride.

The Stones face a Barnet side looking to keep their eighth clean sheet in a row.
