Honest Garrard Questions Wood's Promotion Hopes

Luke Garrard has been left questioning his Boreham Wood squad after they fell to a disappointing defeat at FC Halifax Town.

Whilst the result more or less secured the Shaymen’s National League status, Wood’s play-off hopes were dealt a blow.

They still remain fifth in the table but Garrard knows they need to beat teams at the wrong end of the table if they are to mix it with the big boys in the play-offs.

The boss told Boreham Wood TV: “ Defensively, we were nowhere near it today. Considering what we’re about defensively, we were very poor.

“I’ve got to question us. I told the group after Wrexham how good they were. To go to Wrexham and win 1-0 was fantastic.

“If you want to mount a promotion push, you need to win games against the likes of Halifax, no disrespect to them. The frustration is that we’ve got five steps forward and three back.

“Halifax should have been out of sight in the first half. You can’t defend the way we did and expect to win at National League level.”
