History Makers Truro Get Drawn At Charlton

By David Richardson

Truro City reached the Emirates FA Cup First Round for the first time in their history and became the first Cornish side since 1969 to make that stage - now they've been rewarded with an away tie at League One club Charlton Athletic.

The White Tigers beat Hampton and Richmond on Saturday and following tonight's draw, they'll be visiting a former Premier League side.

“To be part of helping to create history for the club and Cornish football as a whole is really special,” said manager Lee Hodges.

“You could tell by the reaction of the players and the supporters at the end of the game on Saturday exactly how much it means to everyone.

“It was an even game; we knew it would be and the first goal was always going to be vital. Thankfully we got it and then Tom McHale made a brilliant penalty save before we were able to make the game safe with a second goal.

“The celebrations at the end were fantastic and a reward for the hard work that has been put in to get us this far."
