Heed Boss Doesn't Get An Easy Rise!

Steve Watson’s could have done with some new fingernails for Christmas after another tense ending.

On Saturday Gateshead had to resist a late Maidstone rally to win 3-2 at the Gallagher Stadium.

Then on Boxing Day it was Hartlepool who were trying to hurt them mate on but the Heed avoided a spot of bother.

They held firm again to grab a 2-1 win over Richard Money’s men.

“I thought I used all my nerves up on Saturday!” said manager Watson. “We do things the hard way but it’s a great three points for us in difficult circumstances.

“We were comfortable then comes the red card and they get two penalties but we dug in.

“We were a bit wasteful with the ball second half but we played very well in the first.

“The luck was with us thankfully. There are a lot of different ways to win football games and there will be more comfortable endings to games to come for me that’s for sure!”
