Hawks Edge Stones - Bath's Play-Off Hopes Take A Knock

By Steve Whitney

Havant & Waterlooville moved four points clear at the top of the Vanarama National League South table following a hard-earned win against Buildbase FA Trophy semi-finalists Wealdstone at Westleigh Park.

The Hawks, who still possess a game in hand on second-placed Dartford, were second-best for large chunks of the game, despite the fact that the Stones could be forgiven for having their minds elsewhere ahead of Saturday`s Trophy Semi-Final first leg at National League North high-flyers Brackley Town.

However, the Hawks grabbed what proved to be the only goal of the game with 9 minutes remaining when Wes Fogden’s shot came back off the visiting `keeper and sub Alfie Rutherford netted the rebound.

Bath City hosted lower mid-table Eastbourne Borough looking to get their play-off bid back on track following an almost three-week break from action due to the weather.

Borough came to Twerton Park in need of the points as they had slumped to within six points of the bottom of the table.

What proved to be the only goal of the game arrived on the hour-mark and it was the Sussex side who got it when a Jack Batten mistake allowed Manny Odubade to score.
