Five Things You May Have Missed In The National League

By Steven Coney

Things are starting to get incredibly interesting across the Vanarama National League!

It was another weekend of big wins, big goals and big talking points - here are five things you may have missed from another busy Saturday.

Macclesfield Town now face their toughest test yet

Are the Silkmen starting to run out of steam? They’ve drawn with Solihull Moors and now Torquay United at home in the past few weeks whilst also suffering a heavy 6-0 defeat at AFC Fylde. They still lead the way by a point but they need a reaction against Guiseley before make-or-break trips to Aldershot and Tranmere.

Aldershot Town are hitting top form at the right time

They had enough to see off Leyton Orient on Saturday at Brisbane Road. They’ve now won four of their last six and are showing the kind of attacking quality needed to win promotion. They travel to Dagenham next Saturday and then host Macclesfield. Two victories would put them in the driving seat.

Solihull Moors are unstoppable!

Mark Yates’ side are the form side in the National League. Their fantastic 3-1 win at Dagenham on Saturday was their fourth in five games and they’re now just a point from safety. They’ve got some tough fixtures coming up but what a job Yates and assistant Tim Flowers have done.

The National League North title picture just got interesting… again!

Just a few weeks back, Harrogate Town could have gone top of the table. Then Salford stretched their lead to 11 points but Brackley put a spanner in the works with victory over the Ammies on Saturday. The Saints will be five points off top spot if they win their game in hand and Salford have some more difficult fixtures coming up.

Hampton & Richmond Borough’s unbeaten run shows no signs of ending

The Beavers extended their unbeaten streak to 21 games - a fantastic achievement at any level of football, especially so in the competitive National League South. They won 2-1 at play-off hopefuls Chelmsford on Saturday and are still just three points off leaders Dartford with a game in hand.

And a big honourable mention to the 8,471 fans that attended the Wrexham v Tranmere game at the Racecourse. The National League's biggest crowd of the season so far were treated to a four-goal thriller!
