Team Of The Weekend: The National League North

By Tom Feaheny

There was plenty of important of results in the Vanarama National League North, but which players really stood out?

Drama was high during the past few days with leaders Salford City losing to third placed Brackley Town, while Darlington left it late to defeat Leamington, writes Tom Feaheny.

But who were the players that made it all happen?

As we do every week, we get on the phone to club officials, reporters and managers to gage their views on the weekend’s best - and build a squad of 16.

Here is what we’ve come up with following Saturday’s National League North games.

How do you rate our selection process? Take your view to twitter and let us know your views @TheNationalLge

Goalkeeper: Steven Drench (Bradford Park Avenue)
With Avenue down to ten men, Drench was called upon several times both before and afterwards and made several fine saves to ensure they got a point.

Defence: Jack Vann (Gainsborough Trinity)
An assured debut by the defender who helped Trinity get a vital win.

Defence: Alex Gudger (Brackley Town)
Gudger played a vital role in ensuring Brackley gained the three points, with good block, a solid display at the back and a goal as well.

Defence: Jamie Stott (Stockport County)
Stott put his body on the line with vital clearances including one off his own goal line as County got the win and a clean sheet.

Midfield: Josh Falkingham (Harrogate Town)
Falkingham showed energy and persistence throughout the game as he helped push Town over the line for a win.

Midfield: Declan Weeks (Kidderminster Harriers)
It was an impressive performance by Kidderminster in general, but Weeks made the side tick with his quick play.

Midfield: Steven Irwin (FC United of Manchester)
Irwin was the enforcer of the midfield for United with a goal and some key passes as well.

Midfield: Ryan Hall (Spennymoor Town)
A brilliant afternoon for the winger who caused problems for the Tamworth defence all game.

Striker: Stephen Thompson (Darlington)

A hat-trick scored, helped Darlington to a big three points, his contribution in other departments not just the goals was key as well.

Striker: Reece Thompson (Boston United)
Boston United are on a great run of form and it is no coincidence that Thompson arriving has played a part, he got another two assists.

Striker: Matty Warburton (Stockport County)
A goal and assist for the striker on his return to the starting line-up, means he is picked.

Substitutes:
Lee Vaughan (Kidderminster Harriers)
Shane Killock (Bradford Park Avenue)
Aaron Williams (Brackley Town)
Craig King (Gainsborough Trinity)
Ben Hinchliffe (Stockport County)
