Team Of The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

You just can’t call the National League South this season - and the proverbial cat was thrown in amongst the pigeons on Saturday.

There were of course home slip ups by the top two, another big defeat for contenders Hemel Hempstead and some simply massive wins near the bottom.

Victory for Oxford City, Gloucester and Chippenham goes to show how quickly things can change.

The Team of the Weekend in the South shows some clubs who haven’t featured highly for the past few months.

As always, we pick the brains of managers, press officers, reporters and club officials to come up with the side which shone brightly on Saturday.

We hope we’ve hit the spot with our selection process as the 16 players who really performed are given their moment in the spotlight.

National League South Team of the Weekend:

Goalkeeper: Dan Lincoln (Bognor Regis)
It’s not just an sentimental pick having been rushed to hospital last weekend. He was outstanding and kept Bognor in the game at Chippenham.

Defender: Robbie Cundy (Gloucester City)
How Gloucester needed that win at Welling. Cundy and the Tigers defence held firm to take the three points home.

Defender: Matthew Pickering (Eastbourne Borough)

The Sports defence haven’t had a season to write home about, but Pickering showed wisdom beyond his years in the 0-0 draw at East Thurrock.

Defender: Frankie Musonda (Oxford City)
It wasn’t just the Oxford forward getting the praise in their 4-1 win against Hemel. Musonda was outstanding.

Midfielder: Taylor Miles (Chelmsford City)
It’s moments like that fans are in football for. His corner sailed in with 90 minutes on the clock as City sealed a famous late turn around at leaders Dartford.

Midfielder: Darren Mullings (Chippenham)

He powered the Bluebirds. A real driving force sealed a vital win over relegation rivals Bognor Regis Town.

Midfielder: Jacob Cane (Weston)
Marked as a 10/10 by one reporter - there’s no way he he can’t make it in as Weston got the better of Concord Rangers.

Midfielder: Rory Williams (Havant & W)
A goal and an all-round excellent display as the country’s away day kings Havant picked up another three points on the road at Poole Town.

Midfielder: Jack Compton (Bath City)
An incredible goal sealed all three points at Braintree. Jerry Gill’s team are improving with every week that goes by.

Striker: Bradley Goldberg (Welling United)
Two goals for Welling against Gloucester City didn’t prove to be enough but he carried the Wings.

Striker: David Pratt (Wealdstone)
He picked his moment to fire for his new club. A low key start life to at the Stones was wiped out with two goals against Truro City. Captain.

Substitutes:
Wes Fogden (Havant & W)
Ed Williams (Gloucester City)
Rob Sinclair (Oxford City)
Iffy Allen (Wealdstone)
Nat Jarvis (Bath City)
