Spennymoor Raises Five Figures At Annual Event

Spennymoor Town has raised £10,000 for a North-East charity at its annual ‘Night on the Town’ event.

The club donated proceeds from an auction on the evening of November 11th to Heel and Toe, who provide care and support for children with disabilities.

The event’s primary function is to raise funds to help the club maintain its upward momentum, as well as a charitable contribution. But Chief Executive Bradley Groves was so impressed with this year’s generous total he decided to match it personally, taking the Heel and Toe donation into five figures.

The event was held at Ramside Hall Hotel and sponsored by business contacts of the football club, including Designer Travel, energy supplier Engie and Mr Groves’ own business, Great Annual Savings Group, whose staff organised the evening.

Heel and Toe Chief Executive Douglas Long said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support we have received from Mr Groves throughout the years, both from the Football Club and his firm, Great Annual Savings. The money raised will make a huge difference and go a long way to providing free conductive therapy for young children with physical disabilities in the area.

“As a registered charity, we receive no funding from the government, so we rely heavily on the generous donations made by people like Mr Groves.”

Bradley Groves, Chief Executive of Spennymoor Town and Great Annual Savings Group, said: “I’d like to thank our sponsors on the evening, without whom we couldn’t have had the event, let alone generated so much money for Heel and Toe.

“It’s a charity I’ve been an ambassador of for some time and one that does superb work in our local area. It was a proud night for us as we looked back on some of our biggest achievements and enjoyed the evening, but equally we wanted to raise enough money to make a tangible impact for Heel and Toe, which we feel we’ve done.

“We’re a community football club and we’re proud to have such a high profile in Spennymoor. It’s our duty to use that for the benefit of the area.

“Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event.”

Heel and Toe is also one of four staff-nominated charities that Great Annual Savings has pledged to support over the next 12 months.

Recently, the Group handed over a £1,400 donation after its employees took part in a sponsored zip-wire and mud-run, taking the joint donation to more than £10,900.
