Something For The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

If you’re anything like us, you are looking forward to the weekend’s action long before it happens.

That’s why we like to build up to Saturday’s programme from an early stage.

There’s a lot to choose from this weekend as we all watch the sky hoping for a better weather than what we had around a week ago.

We've picked out what we think are the three games to get you in the mood.

Chelmsford City v Hampton & RB

Beavers fans couldn’t have imagined the season they are having - while Chelmsford supporters would have hoped theirs would be a lot better.

Defeat at Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday night left the Clarets lagging behind and a home defeat to a promotion rival could see their title bid dented beyond repair come 5pm on Saturday.

Alan Dowson was on hand to watch the midweek action and won’t be afraid of extended their incredible run. Hampton haven’t lost in the National League South since August.

Truro City v Havant & W

For perhaps the first time this season, Truro manager Lee Hodges was an unhappy man on Saturday and let his players know it.

Defeat at bottom club Whitehawk provoked a reaction from the manager and now he needs his promotion-chasing team to lift it against a side with an excellent away record.

The Hawks travel well rested. They haven’t played since losing to leaders Dartford, but having won their last two on the road before that Lee Bradbury knows his team are very much still in the hunt for back-to-back promotions.

Welling United v Braintree

This is not the fixture Bradley Quinton would have wanted after coming undone late on at home to Hemel last weekend.

But we may be about the discover if Braintree are made of championship material - a win at Park View Road would send out a strong message.

The Wings won’t be easy prey. Just four points off the play-off places, it’s one of the most demanding places to play. Wins at Poole Town and against Eastbourne Borough in their last two gives warning that Jamie Coyle’s team are getting things together at the right time.

National League South fixtures:
Chelmsford City v Hampton & RB
Concord Rangers v Eastbourne
Dartford v Whitehawk
Gloucester City v Chippenham
Hemel Hempstead v Poole Town
Hungerford Town v Bognor Regis
Oxford City v Bath City
St Albans City v East Thurrock
Truro City v Havant & W
Wealdstone v Weston-super-Mare
