Orient Run Out Of Steam But Get A Big Bonne Boost

Justin Edinburgh eased Leyton Orient fans’ frustration last night by announcing top scorer Macauley Bonne will not be sold in January.

The striker has been linked with Championship clubs over the last week following another fantastic season in front of goal.

Orient retained top spot in the National League on Tuesday evening but were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Aldershot.

Their advantage was cut to a point after Salford City bit back against title rivals Harrogate Town.

But there was at least some good news for the supporters after.

“Macauley is staying, he will not be leaving in January,” Edinburgh confirmed.

“We’re frustrated but the important thing is to stick together. You’ve got to be able to pick each other up and we will.

“It wasn’t the level of performance we would have wanted. I’ve got to look at myself perhaps, I think maybe it was a game too far for one or two.

“I take responsibly because I thought the monument we gained at Wrexham may have carried us through. It didn’t, and we fell a little short at times.

“I didn’t think we quite had the quality to find that needed pass or that killer ball that would have broken the deadlock.”

Edinburgh, whose team host Gateshead this Saturday, added: “We started well but as the game wore on Aldershot got more men behind the ball and made life very difficult for us.”
