No Rest For The Wealdstone Wicked Says Wilkinson

Wealdstone manager Bobby Wilkinson will reward his team for taking points off on-fire Hampton by making them train on their first Saturday off for ages!

National League North and South clubs aren’t in action this weekend as they save their legs for New Year’s Day.

Not the Stones, though. Wilkinson says there is no rest for the wicked and his players will report for duty.

“I lot of people seem to think it’s a sprint,” the manager said following Boxing Day’s 1-1 draw. “It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.

“We’re in there, but I’m not looking at the play-off yet. It’s a game-by-game thing for us. If we’re in with a shout with five or six games to go I’ll be happy.

“It was a great point against Hampton, but we have to get ready for them again next week and try to become the first team to beat them in the league since August.

“On Saturday we’re in training. You don’t get any time off at this football club.

“We’re still building. We took over a sinking ship don’t forget. We’re floating now but we’re trying to get it moving along quickly.”

The sides meet again on New Year’s Day and Wilkinson believes the tactical battle will be another interesting subplot.

“I thought we got our tactics right on Boxing Day,” said the manager.

“It’ll be another battle and we have got to be ready for it, the players and the management.”
