Maxted: Guiseley Progression In FA Cup Would Mean A Lot

By Tom Feaheny

Guiseley keeper Jonny Maxted knows from his family experience how much the Lions doing well in cup competitions means to all associated with the side.

Maxted who is the nephew of Guiseley's 1991 FA Vase winning goalkeeper Paul Maxted, is preparing to try and make history with the side as they aim to reach the FA Cup second round for the first time ever, writes Tom Feaheny.

“It would mean a lot to us all to get through and hopefully we do just that," Maxted said.

“It is a really important game for the history of this club, we are showing the right attitude and mentality, we know about them after last time and have a confidence.”

His last performance saw him make two penalty saves and while Guiseley lost 1-0 to Bromley, he believes they can take a lot from nearly gaining a point despite playing with 10 men for nearly the entire game.

“We have to use the performance and the way we played going into that match, we know a lot about them, they know a lot about us, it is a game we are all looking forward to."
