It's A TV Turn On! Sutton Are On The Wright Track Again

Tommy Wright explained that Sutton United’s win over Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday afternoon was extra special with the BT Sport cameras capturing their magical moments.

Sutton moved into second, albeit only for a few hours, thanks to their fully deserved 2-1 win at Gander Green Lane.

The early kick-off was broadcast to the national - and Wright, in double figures after opening the scoring, knows the additional exposure made it even sweeter.

The highly-rated forward got the U’s up and running before Tom Bolarinwa’s fine header from Harry Beautyman’s corner doubled the lead.

Daggers’ late reply couldn’t inspire a rally and Wright told the National League’s Oli Osborn: “Having the TV cameras here was really special. We did on the first day of the season against Leyton Orient but it was good to show everyone that we’re a good team and it was an important result.

“It took us a while to get going. We hit the post, and the crossbar and we managed to miss from two yards out. But once we got the goal we got the second quickly - then it was a case of keeping them out.

“We let in a goal but the defence dug in and we managed to claim an important win.

“I got on to one head back to the goalkeeper in the first half and couldn’t score but I did again in the second half and this time my touch was better and I took it round the keeper and passed it in.”

Wright says he has spoken with manager Paul Doswell and told him the bench isn’t where he wants to be.

“I’ve had words with the manager - I want to play as many games as possible,” he said. “I don’t want to be someone who sits on the sidelines, even though I have scored when I have come on.

“But I have shown I am worthy of a start. We have a lot of quality up front at the club and if you want to stay in the side you have to keep performing.”
