In Review: How 2017 Fared For National League North Sides

By Tom Feaheny

We've picked out how our National League North teams have done during the calendar year.

We've had a look the results over the past 12 months - have your club had a year to remember or can 2018 not come quickly enough?

The league leaders

Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley's side have this record for the year:

Played 42
Won 28
Drew 5
Lost 9
Points 89/126

Last season Salford City missed out on promotion via a play-off defeat against FC Halifax Town. They have looked to right that this season and are currently top of the table with a six point gap.

Continuing their good run

Brackley Town started 2017 slowly but an impressive middle and good end, saw them finish last season in great form and this campaign they are currently third, their record is:

Played 45
Won 21
Drew 15
Lost 9
Points 78/135

For Brackley a seventh-placed finish last season wasn't enough for a play-off place, if it was this season they would have entered and would have been in-form as they ended the campaign on a nine-match unbeaten run including this season that was extended to 17 games, as Kevin Wilkin's side continue to impress.

Elsewhere...

Harrogate Town

Played 42
Won 20
Drew 12
Lost 10
Points 72/126

Kidderminster Harriers made the play-offs last season and are back in there again, their record is:

Played 42
Won 21
Drew 10
Lost 11
Points 73/126

Bradford Park Avenue have shown improvements during the past 12 months, their record is:

Played 42
Won 18
Drew 8
Lost 16
Points 62/126

Chorley have once again impressed this season as they fight for a top seven place, their record stands at:

Played 41
Won 17
Drew 13
Lost 11
Points 64/123

Some of the new teams

For Alun Armstrong's Blyth Spartans it has been a fine 2017. They gained automatic promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier and are currently fourth in the Vanarama National League North, their record is:

Played 46
Won 32
Drew 3
Lost 11
Points 99/138

Spartans started 2017 with an 11 match winning run in the Evo-Stik Premier and this run helped the side finish first going into the Vanarama National League North. While they started with two losses this season, they have then gone on four-game winning runs, and have yet to draw a single game this campaign.

Jason Ainsley's Spennymoor Town gained promotion last season from the Evo-Stik Premier via the play-offs, their record from both leagues for 2017 stands at:

Played 45
Won 24
Drew 11
Lost 10
Points 83/135

Including their end to last season with the play-offs, Town went nine games unbeaten and are firmly in the play-off places as things stand in the Vanarama National League North. An opening day win against Stockport County was a sign that they would have a good first-half of the season.

York City were relegated from the National League to the National League North, here is their 2017 record:

Played 42
Won 16
Drew 13
Lost 13
Points 61/126

York's form for 2017 alone while in the Vanarama National League would have seen them stay in the division in 12th, but their start to last season meant they went down on the last day. This campaign has seen a change in manager and the Minstermen find themselves three points off the play-off places.
