Devonshire Knows Things Haven’t Quite Gone As Expected

Alan Devonshire says the answer to Maidenhead United’s issues is to not get on each other’s back.

The Stripes are enduring a challenging second season in the National League.

Third from bottom and with just one win since September, the experienced manager accepts things haven’t quite gone to plan.

Devonshire spoke to the Maidenhead Advertiser about a difficult first half of the campaign and believes unity is the only way out of this sticky situation.

Maidenhead’s FA Trophy match with Oxford City was abandoned towards the end on Saturday and it summed up the way things have been going.

“We know we’re in a tough season and we’ve just got to roll our sleeves up and work hard,” he told the newspaper.

“We’re on a tough road. I’m the one at the helm and I know we’re in for a tough battle.

“We need everyone on board to help and be positive. We’re struggling but we’ve got half the season left.

“We’re not playing well at the moment but the only way to get that back is through hard work. We need to have a good second half of the season.”
