Brennan Buoyant But Has An Injury Worry Over Walker

Dean Brennan hailed captain fantastic Jordan Parkes - but raised injury concerns about his goalkeeper Laurie Walker.

Hemel Hempstead beat Chelmsford City 3-1 last night to go joint second as skipper Parkes notched two before defending superbly after being moved to full-back.

One of his goals came direct from a corner - the second time he has done that in 2018!

But the win was tempered somewhat by a nasty-looking injury to Brennan’s number one.

“I thought we earned the right to win a game of football,” said the Irishman, whose side go level on points with Hampton. “We’ll take being joint second in the league and we deserve it.

“Jordan is technically excellent. He put one in with his left foot from a corner a few weeks ago and he did it again last night, this time with his right.

“He’s been really great for us and we’re delighted to have him at our club. He was outstanding - second half he had to go and play full-back because of an injury to Lloyd Doyley at half-time but all in all in was a fantastic team performance.

“Mentality, focus and application are all so important - we will need that again on Saturday when we play Poole Town, who are in the bottom three. There are no easy games in this division, they’re fighting for their lives.”

He added: “The first goal changes the game. I couldn’t see if it was a penalty or not, I’m really far away, but you’re always going to appeal! But in the last 20 minutes of the first half we were excellent.”

Walker came off and looked in real pain. Now it’s a waiting game for the manager.

“Lawrie has come off a few minutes before the end with a gash down his arm. If it’s tissue damage he will be out for a long time - so now we’ve got to assess that” Brennan said.

“We have a lot of injuries so we are hoping it’s not as bad as it could be.”
