Attendances Analysed: The National League South

By Sam Elliott

It was a season like we’ve never seen before for attendances in the National League South.

But the question is, which clubs enjoyed the biggest surge at the turnstiles?

The answer isn’t perhaps what you think it might be!

Bath City were the big winners when it came to crowd increases. The Romans saw a incredible 58.4 per cent rise from the 2017-18 campaign - last season they averaged 1,142 at Twerton Park.

Concord Rangers were close behind. They were boosted by a rise of 52.7 per cent, up hugely from the year before.

As you would expect, fans prefer to watch at title charge than a battle for relegation!

Torquay United’s crowds were up 32.2 per cent as they claimed title glory, but a struggle didn’t put off Weston-super-Mare’s fans - in fact their gates increased by 30 per cent despite finishing bottom!

Welling United’s fantastic home form saw gates rise by 28.4 per cent, while Dulwich Hamlet supporters really came out in force - they were 23 per cent up on their promotion campaign.

The biggest season-on-season increases:
Bath City: 58.4 per cent
Concord Rangers: 52.7 per cent
Torquay United: 32.2 per cent
Weston-super-Mare: 30 per cent
