Allinson Not Best Pleased With Saints Despite Late Win

The Saints “really struggled” to break down a resolute Chippenham Town defence and looked like they would have to settle for a goalless draw.

However, Zane Banton kept his cool from the penalty spot in added time and then Rhys Murrell-Williamson put some icing on St Albans’ cake just before the final whistle.

The late victory saw the Saints climb to fifth and they are now nine points adrift of leaders Dartford with two games in hand. So why was Allinson far from pleased?

“I think for 91 minutes we were sluggish and for some reason, we never really came out of the traps,” the boss told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We went from a 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 and then to a 3-5-2 trying to get a reaction but we really struggled.

“Chippenham defended really well, you have to give them credit. They nullified the space for us to use and we were really cumbersome when in possession of the ball.

“When you have your poor performances, you have to pick something up and 0-0 would have probably been a fair result today. We’ve played really well this season and been beaten so it was nice to not play so well and pick up three points.”
