50 Points Is Still The Aim For Maidenhead, Says Striker Marks

Maidenhead United’s target is still to get to 50 points in the National League according to striker Sean Marks.

The Magpies have started the season well and sit 13th in the table at the half-way stage. They have lost just seven of their 24 National League fixtures, only one more than leaders Macclesfield Town.

Alan Devonshire’s side haven’t won in seven League games, however, and Marks says they need to start being more ruthless in front of goal if they are to remain safely in mid-table.

“This league is so difficult,” Marks told the Maidenhead Advertiser. “At Braintree, Dev often said ‘get to 50 points and go from there’ and I think that it is important that you set a target when you are not an established team in the league.

“We need to knuckle down and get to 50 points and then see where it takes us from there.

“Every team can beat any other team on their day in this league and teams are more clinical than in the National League South.

“We just need to take our chances and I am sure we will start rising up the league - we have been competitive in all games but maybe our finishing has cost us in certain close games.”

Forward Marks, who played under Devonshire at Braintree, is pleased to be back in action following two months out injured.

“It feels great to be back and involved with the squad after the injury I suffered," he added. "I tore my medial knee ligament, leading to eight weeks out and my longest injury within football.

“It was really frustrating to not be part of the period of time, but the team played really well throughout the two months, so it was good to see my injury not affecting the team.”
