Wrexham Finally In The Goals But Keates Left Disappointed

By Steven Coney

Dean Keates admitted Wrexham’s home draw with Barrow was a “blow”, despite the Dragons finally hitting the goal trail.

Keates’ men were leading 3-2 until Callum Macdonald’s equaliser seconds from the full-time whistle gave the Bluebirds a share of the spoils.

It was the first time this season Wrexham had scored three goals in a game but they have now won just one of their previous six National League fixtures.

Keates told Wrexham TV: “It’s a bit of a blow. I thought in the first half it was the best we’ve looked this season going forward.

“Second half was difficult because of the conditions and we’re disappointed with the result but we can’t let it get to us too much.

“The main criticism of the team this season has been not scoring enough goals. Some of the balls in the box were better and gave the centre forwards an opportunity.”

The Dragons are now nine points behind leaders Macclesfield Town and when asked if the Silkmen can be caught, Keates added: “Of course they can be.

“You have to give them credit because they’ve shown great consistency but we can only worry about ourselves.”
