Watson Says Troubled Southport Will Stick Together

Liam Watson says Southport will stick together as their troubled start to the season continues.

The club are second bottom from of the National League North after two months to forget.

They lost 2-0 at Brackley on Saturday meaning they now haven’t won since beating Nuneaton in the middle of August.

But Watson says they need to move forward together as the club with promotion ambitions struggle near the foot of the table.

He said: “There was a gulf between the two teams, they were better than us.

“But our workrate was poor. We made errors, it was a bit of a shock because I thought we had been improving.

“The two goals we let in were shambolic. We were second best in the first half, we got better in the second but by then the game was gone.

“We’ve come across all the teams in the top six or seven and we haven’t been close to any of them.

“We have been in good form but this was a set-back to us. We need to dust ourselves down now. Now we’ve got to stick together and work really hard to start climbing the table.”
