Waddock: Aldershot Will See Benefits Of Training Camp

The Shots took part in a camp in a training camp in Bath last week as they look to get up to speed during pre-season.

Despite losing 2-1 to Hampton & Richmond Borough, Gary Waddock was pleased with what he saw after they had taken part in an intense training camp, writes Tom Feaheny.

Waddock spoke to the club's website and believes pushing his players is key as they look to once again challenge for promotion.

"The players were tired after going down to Bath, it was quite evident, that was the whole idea. Credit to Hampton & Richmond Borough they gave us a real good test, just like they did last season.

"It is about getting these lads fitness right up, there is no point just coasting through, with training and games, we wanted to push them hard and we have done just that."

The club are looking at getting in a few more players, with Waddock making it clear he knows which area they need to focus on.

"The priority for us is to recruit a few more defenders, we have had players come in for games and we are keeping our options open as we look to see who is the best fit for us."

Waddock also says playing plenty of games can only help the club ahead of the new season.

"We have a game Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, you don't get any real consistency, but that will come once we get a bit nearer to the start of the season. It is important to make sure everyone gets enough minutes under their belt."
