Varney Says Fleet Departure Is His Decision

Ebbsfleet United’s outgoing vice chairman Peter Varney says he will remain a fan of the club going forward.

Peter Varney felt the need to write a piece in the club's matchday programme FleetReview regarding why he is leaving his position, writes Tom Feaheny.

"I have not been sacked. It is my sole decision to leave at this time which I believe is the right time for all concerned," Varney wrote.

"I have fully recovered from my prostate cancer operation last September which kept me at home for three weeks and I have the all-clear thanks to the skill of the brilliant surgical team at Guys Hospital.

"I am not retiring due to old age! I would like to carrying on working as long as I can.”

Varney who has played a big part in the recent success the club have had will be in attendance for their FA Trophy game at home to Warrington Town tomorrow. He will be replaced by new executive vice chairman Dean Pooley
