Torq About A Big Day! Baker Can't Wait To Get At Gulls

Slough Town’s Neil Baker can’t quite get his head around Saturday’s National League South fixture list.

The joint manager is still struggling to come to terms with the fact his side and Torquay United are in the same league.

The Rebels have made an impressive start to life in Step 2 after winning the Southern League play-offs back in May.

Seven points from 12 represents a good opening four games - and they go into the match with the Gulls having recorded back-to-back wins at Gloucester City and at home to Weston.

You can watch highlights on their 2-1 win on Tuesday here.

But Baker is still struggling to digest that they’re welcoming Torquay this Saturday.

“It’s incredible when you think about it,” said Baker, who works alongside Jon Underwood.

“Not so long ago they were in League One and Slough were playing Step 4 football without a home.

“Now we’re on a level playing field and it’s wonderful for the club. It’s hard to take in.”

But he says they won’t be overly welcoming hosts.

“We’ve got a job to do,” he said. “We have loved it in the National League South so far and now we want to take a big scalp.”
