Team Of The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

While Wealdstone were doing the National League South proud in the FA Trophy, the rest were left scrapping for points.

A good weekend in general for sides at the top, but not so much down the bottom. We’re reaching crunch time with with around two months to go.

Just like the managers, we have important team selection to see to. So here’s what we’ve come up with as we search for Saturday’s star players.

Of course, we can’t be at every match - as much as we would love to be!

If you aren’t familiar with our process, we call on eyes and ears up and down the country to make sure our selection is as close to spot on as possible.

But it’s just not football if everyone agrees! Got a point to make? Then make sure you message us on twitter to get your voice heard @TheNationalLge

National League South Team of the Weekend:

Goalkeeper: Bailey Vose (Welling United)
The Wings are still in the promotion hunt and Vose was outstanding in the club’s win at Concord Rangers.

Defender: Ben Wynter (Hampton)
It wasn’t a classic Hampton performance against Bognor but they dug in to claim a win. Wynter won every ball.

Defender: Dan Spence (Hemel Hempstead)
The on-loan Sutton man steadied the ship against Havant with Dean Brennan’s team shipping too many goals lately.

Defender: Tarik Moore-Azille (St Albans)
Man of the Match against Chippenham, the Saints are grinding out results again which is just what Ian Allinson wants.

Defender: Godfrey Poku (Oxford City)
Oxford are in great form all of a sudden and Chelmsford were kept in check, Poku didn’t miss a trick.

Midfielder: Brian Stock (Havant)
Experience counts at this time of the year and the Hawks have lots of it. None more so than their midfield man, who was in top form at Hemel.

Midfielder: Ryan Hayes (Dartford)
He didn’t get in on the goals as Tony Burman’s leaders thrashed Truro, but that doesn’t matter. Created so many chances.

Midfielder: Anthony Straker (Bath City)
A solid point for ten-man Bath at East Thurrock and Anthony Straker used all of his experience to ensure they didn’t leave Essex empty handed

Midfielder: Jack Parkinson (Welling United)
He held well and scored too as Welling moved to within two points of the play-off places at Concord.

Striker: Sam Nombe (Oxford City)
In great scoring form - his double helped down Chelmsford City and now Oxford are ten points clear of trouble.

Striker: Danny Mills (Dartford)
It was another powerful display from the loan signing, who put the game with Truro to bed within three minutes of the teams returning after half-time.

Substitutes:

Luke Southwood (Bath City)

Isaac Kelly (Gloucester City)

James White (East Thurrock)

Gethyn Hill (Weston-super-Mare)

Dan Thompson (Braintree)
