Team Of The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

As the dust has just about settled on the National League South programme, we have added an extra bit of spice.

Here is the Team of the Weekend from a division which is as open as any this season.

It was a great weekend for Dartford right at the top but a number of great performances say some very important points picked up.

We have entered into conversation with clubs, managers and journalists to bring you our Select 16 from Saturday’s action.

Goalkeeper: Laurie Walker (Hemel Hempstead)
Outstanding for Dean Brennan’s team - but very much in the way for Jerry Gill and his Bath City side who wanted a third straight victory.

Defender: Richard Sho-Silva (Dartford)

Darts fans expect big things of the pacy full-back and his winning goal at Poole Town only made him even more popular.

Defender: James White (East Thurrock)
Welling isn’t an easy place to go to in the past three months - it’s an even more difficult place to go and win 3-0 at!

Defender: Ian Simpemba (Eastbourne)
That’s more like it from the Sports, who secured an important win at Gloucester. The centre-back set them on their way with the opener and held his defence firm.

Defender: Charlie Wassmer (Hampton)
It’s fair to say two red cards in the first few weeks of the reason set the wrong tone, but when he’s not suspended he’s been superb. The Beavers have been brilliant lately.

Defender: Taofiq Olomowewe (Wealdstone)
The Stones’ win over title contenders Braintree Town was massive, and the defender was outstanding against the free-scoring Iron.

Midfielder: Soloman Sambou (St Albans City)
Saints’ victory at Truro City could turn their season around. Back in the play-offs and Sambou was the stand-out star in Cornwall.

Anton Rogers (Hungerford Town)
The son of Celtic manager Brendan was the Buoy for Hungerford! His overall performance at Chelmsford City helped the club claim a merited point in Essex.

Midfielder: Brendan Kiernan (Hampton)
His fellow midfield Max Kretzschmar gets plenty of scoring plaudits but the former Wimbledon man has been equally impressive in their FA Cup run.

Striker: Sam Higgins (East Thurrock)
Now the league’s joint top scorer, his two goals at Welling United helped to Rocks ease to victory. Powerful and deadly, there’s no sign of second season syndrome for Higgins.

Striker: Lewis Taaffe (Concord Rangers)
Rangers were arguably the day’s big winners in the National League South - Taaffe got the winner at big relegation rivals Bognor Regis.

Substitutes:
Luke Southwood (Bath City)
Tom Bender (St Albans City)
Danny Green (Wealdstone)
Sam Merson (St Albans City)
David Pratt (Chippenham)
