Taylor: Fine Start To The Season Down To Adjusting Quickly

Spennymoor Town striker Glen Taylor believes the side's impressive start to the Vanarama National League North season can be put down to the squad having the quality and knowledge to do well in the league.

Spennymoor find themselves 4th in the league with 13 games gone and this included a late win at Southport last time around, writes Tom Feaheny.

Taylor was able to wriggle free of a defender and score to make it 2-1 with basically the last kick of the game.

"It was a massive result for us and to get the winner to get 3 points so late on was a great feeling and you could tell how much it meant to us as a team with the way he celebrated. We hadn't played for a fortnight because of the FA Cup exit so we were desperate to get 3 points and makes it extra special when away from home," Taylor said.

"We have started the season really, we have come up against some very good sides and matched them on the most part. We are disappointed with exiting the fa cup so early after reaching the 1st round last season but it gives us every chance of doing better in the league."

The striker along with his other teammates continue to impress and he said it is because of what they have in the dressing room both on the pitch and in the dugout.

"If you look around the dressing room we probably have two lads that have not played at a pro club or played at this level, everybody else has made professional appearances or played at this level. We knew what the league was all about and know if we are at it we will win games because we have a lot of very good players in the squad."

"Jason (Ainsley) is a really good motivator before games, he will make you feel good about yourself before the game giving your more confidence when you cross the white line!"

Taylor said he doesn't want to be putting a marker down for where they aim to be just yet for the end of the season but thinks they can go far.

"It is hard to say what the aim should be really, I think we just take 1 game at a time and try and get the three points. By Christmas we should know realistically what we can achieve but there is no reason why we should not finish in the top seven and secure a playoff place."
