Struggling Stones Bolster Ranks With Experienced Duo

Maidstone United boss Jay Saunders hopes new signings Ross Lafayette and Dean Beckwith will spark an upturn in results.

The duo join on loan from National League rivals Sutton United and boost a Stones squad that hasn't tasted victory in the League since November.

Striker Lafayette will be a welcome addition following the departures of Joe Pigott and Zavon Hines last month.

Boss Saunders told the club’s website: “We’re very pleased. Ross didn’t come out of the blue and we’ve spoken in the past about him coming here.

“He’s someone I’ve liked for a long time and I think he’ll be a real bonus to us. He’s a strong lad and different from what we’ve already got.

“He’ll give us a real focal point which we’ve maybe lost since Pigs went. Ross isn’t just a big battering ram, he’s got good feet and I think we can get goals out of him.”

Experienced defender Beckwith, meanwhile, will be looking to help shore up a defence that has conceded 13 goals in five matches.

Saunders added: “I’ve known Dean for a long time. We’re leaking goals and he comes in with great experience. He’s a good organiser and will be a really good addition for us.

“We’ve needed to bring some fresh lads in and I’ve said all along that I’ll only bring the right ones in and we have had to be patient.”
