Straker On The Move As Romans Confirm Defender Is Leaving

Anthony Straker will be lacing up his boots for Havant & Waterlooville next season after his contract was cancelled by Bath City.

The seven-goal defender was a big hit with the club’s fans.

So good was his form at both ends, his displays earned him a place in the National League South Team of the Season.

But he wants to play his football football closer to home, the Romans have announced - and Havant have swooped.

“We totally understand the change in his personal situation with his partner due to give birth in October meaning he would find travelling from his home on the south coast a lot more challenging,” Bath said in a statement.

“A transfer fee has been agreed with Havant & Waterlooville.”

Manager Jerry Gill told the club’s website: “I would like to thank Strakes for his commitment and professionalism since I became manager.

“He was not only our captain but a great personality within the group, popular with staff, players and supporters.”

Straker said: “Writing this with nothing but good memories but an addition to my family life has led me to having to move on from the club and find football closer to home.

“I’d like to thank the boys of the last two years for giving their all and being a pleasure to lead out every week.

“To the Gaffer, Jim, and the playing staff for always providing the best for us to make it easier to play on match days. Paul Williams from day one always approachable and willing to help with any problems you may come across.

“And finally, to the fans for welcoming me as a Roman from the beginning and backing me and the boys every week. All the best for next season to everyone at Bath City FC.”
