Stones Looking Strong Says Confident Godfrey

If Wealdstone can take their form towards the end of last season into the new campaign then midfielder Elliott Godfrey sees no reason why they can’t mount a strong promotion challenge.

A good summer in the transfer market from manager Gordon Bartlett has allowed for hope that the Stones can have their best ever season in the Vanarama National League South.

A tremendous late run almost saw the club sneak into the playoff places but their great results towards the end wasn’t quite enough to force their way in.

Godfrey buys into the good feeling in West London and the league is wide open according to the former Wimbledon attacker.

“Gordon has assembled a squad of hungry players this year,” explained Godfrey, who has been at the club since 2013.

“We need to keep the momentum gained from the backend of last season. Making our home pitch a fortress this season is going to be key.

“We're extremely lucky to have the best fans in the league and I'm sure together this can be achieved.”

The Stones may have lost a few players but departures won’t hold them back according to Godfrey, who has been impressed by what he has seen of the new additions thus far.

“We're still filtering down the squad but we're looking good,” he said. “We have lost a couple of decent players Tom Hamblin, Wes Parker and Jonny Wright.

“They have been around the club for a few years but Gordon has replaced them with quality signings that can hopefully fill their boots and have great times at this football club.”

Wealdstone begin their season on the 5th of August with a home game against Concord Rangers.
