Saunders Working Hard To Emerge From 'Lonely Place'

Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders says he will continue working hard to try and turn things around - and get through his toughest time as a boss.

The Stones were narrowly beaten 1-0 at high-flying Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, a result that extended their winless run to 16 National League matches.

Their last three points came back in November when they won 1-0 at Torquay United and a tough three-month run has seen the Stones fall to 17th in the table.

Maidstone welcome Tranmere Rovers to the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday and boss Saunders refuses to hide away from the situation.

He told Kent Online: ”Listen, it's a horrible period. I've never been through anything like this and as a manager, it's a lonely place.

"Obviously I'm getting plenty of stick and I suppose rightly so, we're not winning games and it sits with me.

"I'll keep working hard, I always have, I've not shied away from anything all through my career until I'm told otherwise.

"I'm the one that has the sleepless nights and will keep working hard to get it right and hopefully we will.”
