Quinton Pulls No Punches After Iron Loss In Opener

It was Braintree’s first game back in the National League and they were "found wanting" as they slipped to defeat against FC Halifax, writes Tom Scott.

The hosts were caught out on two occasions from set-pieces and the Iron’s manager didn’t mince his words when speaking about his sides performance to BBC Essex after the game.

“They need to learn fast otherwise they’ll be finding another club,” he said. “That’s me being honest with these young lads. They need to work a bit harder when they haven’t got the ball and stay on their toes more.

“I’ll back them all the way I can, I believe in their ability but sometimes you need to roll your sleeves up and be tougher and if you can’t be tougher, you aren’t going to be good enough in this league.

“We’ll be honest with ourselves, we played some good football for long periods but it’s not effective really if you don’t come away with proper shots on goal and that’ll be changing.

“I wasn’t pleased that we didn’t work the keeper enough as what we should be doing but we’ll pick them up and go again on Tuesday,” he added.

Braintree face Barnet next on Tuesday Night at the Hive.
