Owers Now Knows His Gulls Have A Fighting Chance

Torquay United pulled themselves off the bottom of the National League table last night and manager Gary Owers beamed: now we’ve given ourselves a chance.

The Gulls has looked stranded but by beating relegation rivals Barrow they can suddenly sense survival.

The 3-1 win means the gap is now seven points and Owers knows it’s not over yet.

“It was a very important victory, long over due. It was just nice to win again,” he said.

“We’re still in there, there is plenty of fight left in the team.

“Four points from these two games closes the gap. There’s plenty of time to go.

“I’ve told the boys that if we are going to get out of this then we need everyone on top of their game. They were and it gives us a chance.”

Owers says the points were rightfully theirs and now they go to Berkshire at the weekend knowing victory can pull them even closer.

“We thoroughly deserved it,” he said. “We backed up our point at Macclesfield last week with three that we really needed.

“We can go next week to Maidenhead full of confidence. It was a big team effort

The first half was scrappy, backs to the wall and we had to dig in. But we did that and in the second half played very well.”
