'Overachieving' Truro Will Bounce Back, Says Hodges

Truro City boss Lee Hodges is confident his side will bounce back from their mini blip and insists they are still massively overachieving, writes Steven Coney.

The White Tigers were well beaten at Oxford City on Tuesday night, going down 3-1 at Marsh Lane thanks to Matt Paterson's hat-trick.

That followed Saturday's disappointing home defeat to St Albans City 2-1 with Tyler Harvey's late goal proving to be just a consolation.

Despite missing out on the chance to move up to second in the National League South table on Tuesday, it's been a fantastic season so far for the Cornish outfit.

It's a far cry from last term's relegation scrap and Hodges was full of positive words despite seeing his side defeated at Oxford.

He said: "I was disappointed. We weren't at our best on Saturday and lost 2-1. Tonight was our game in hand and we were hoping to put it right. We're disappointed but it's three points we didn't deserve to pick up.

"We knew Oxford had performed very well on the Saturday in the FA Cup and it was a case of making sure we were at it but we didn't look ourselves.

"We are overachieving by a country mile. We are doing fantastically well. It's only our sixth defeat of the season. From where we were last year, we've come a long, way.

"We could have gone second in the table but we're still fourth. Let's be realistic, we're still doing extremely well and we're enjoying the ride."

Truro will have a chance to get back on track when they visit Welling United this Saturday.

The Wings may be six places behind Truro in the crowded league table but are just three points adrift and Hodges knows his side will have to return to their best.

"The boys are good enough to turn these results around because we haven't been beaten many times this season," he added.

"The lads will be hurting. It hurts us all when we lose but we'll pick ourselves up and come back stronger.

"We'll train well on Thursday and make sure we're ready for Welling on Saturday because it's another difficult game."
