Nine Draws In A Row Has Allen Upset

Martin Allen knows improvement is needed if Chesterfield are to finally secure that elusive victory.

The Spireites are on their longest ever winless league run, a sequence which stretches back to the third match of the season.

But - and it’s a big but - the club have drawn their last nine National League games. Bizarrely, thanks to FA Cup success in between, that means they are on their best undefeated run for 12 seasons.

On Tuesday night, Chesterfield struck late to pinch a point against Bromley at the Proact.

But while many of those draws have pleaded Allen over the past two months, he wasn’t at all impressed by what he saw this time.

“I thought it was a poor performance,” the manager told the club’s website. “After some good performances away from home, where we’ve played with courage and determination, we didn’t play well.

“We were poor from the first minute right through till around 20 minutes to go. It was a particularly disappointing night for us.

“We looked nervy, we looked rushed in possession and we were second to the ball.

“I urged them to put in a good performance for themselves, for the supporters, to take us into a great weekend - but we never got it.

“I put it down to nerves and worry. Same as the supporters, the players are on edge.”
