New Year's Resolutions For National League North Clubs!

By Steven Coney

New Year is the perfect time to change things. It’s a chance to draw up resolutions but the big challenge is keeping them.

We’ve decided to have a little bit of fun and pick some resolutions for National League North clubs that would give them a big helping hand in 2018.

What should your team be looking to improve on this year? Let us know on Twitter.

Boston United - Start dreaming…

It’s been a while since Boston were in a position to really think about a play-off charge. New boss Craig Elliott has turned things around since his appointment in November. The Pilgrims, a former Football League club, have won four of their last five games to push them up to mid-table. They may be nine points adrift of the top seven but another run of consecutive wins would put them in the picture.

Curzon Ashton - Get some self-belief…

Boss John Flanagan recently said that his side need to start having a bit more belief in themselves and he has a point. They may be a smaller club than a lot of the heavyweights in the National League North but they continue to compete well in a demanding division. They’ve won only one of their previous eight League games but if they can turn some draws into wins, they could make some waves.

FC United of Manchester - Build a statue of Tom Greaves…

Ok, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration but Greaves has done a wonderful job since replacing long-time manager Karl Marginson in November. Since then he has become the club’s top goalscorer, bringing up his century in the process, and led the Red Rebels on an impressive run of form. They’re still nine points back from the play-off places but Greaves is quickly becoming a club legend in the dugout - as well as on the pitch!

Kidderminster Harriers - Put faith in the kids…

John Eustace’s side pushed AFC Fylde all the way last season before falling in the play-offs to Chorley. The boss hasn’t wavered from his philosophy of playing attractive football with a core of young players. Some will say Eustace should bring in more experience to help out but Harriers are now undefeated in 12 National League North games. Clean sheets are now coming for Kiddy and they are a dangerous side when they get going.

Spennymoor Town - Embrace adversity…

Moors would have been sad to see 2017 go. They won promotion from the Northern Premier League and made a brilliant start to life in the National League North. They beat north-east rivals Blyth Spartans on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day - coming from behind in both games. That double came after defeats to Leamington, Stockport and a 4-4 draw with FC United. Jason Ainsley’s side have been galvanised by the festive period and they’ll be hopeful of keeping their current run going.
