Magpie Clifton Is Ready To Crash One More Title Party!

There’s always that one person who knows how to ruin a good party.

Maidenhead United’s Adrian Clifton hasn’t quite had too much to drink and left something unwanted down the back of a pal’s sofa.

But who does know how to wreck people’s enjoyment. Just ask Leyton Orient.

“We went there a few weeks back and they were at the top and flying,” he said.

“Then we turned up and won. I scored the goal and it was such a great feeling.

“Their fans didn’t like it and they let us know their feelings on the matter after the game! But we played really well that day. Nobody expected that result and that’s what we’re all about.”

Salford City should beware. Few people are expecting them to drop points at the Peninsular Stadium in front of the BT Sport cameras on Saturday lunchtime.

But nobody expected them to in East London, either.

“It sounds a bit horrible to say but we’re coming up there to ruin their day!” said Clifton, the Magpies midfielder.

“When we go to places like that, in situations like this, then we don’t have to have to have a team talk.

“These type of games, when the home team is going great guns, that it’s so easy to get up for. We don’t fear anything.

“The pressure is all on them and that’s the way we like things.”

Maidenhead are all-but safe already, and who would have thought that when they lost games 6-0 and 7-0 back-to-back earlier in the season?

“Things have really changed and although we’re not officially safe, we’re not far away now,” adds the former Staines Town man, whose side have won nine National League games since Christmas.

“We didn’t have a good first five months of the season. We struggled to adapt but the gaffer tweaked things and it’s testimate to him that we are nearly safe already.

“We’re a different team to when we were being beaten like we were against Havant and AFC Fylde.
“We got a few things wrong earlier in the season, we’re not too proud to admit that.

“But it’s how you end a season, not how you start it. We’re now the team we know we are and it’s great how quickly we’ve pulled away from trouble.”

He adds: “One thing sticks with me. When we were being thrashed and results were going against us, the club was still a great place to be.

“I’ve been at some clubs when things are going wrong and you fear coming in to training, you hate it and don’t want to be there. The atmosphere was horrendous.

“But it wasn’t like that. Nobody turned on each other, we answered the questions and pulled together.

“Now we’ve got to end the season strongly and see what we can do up at Salford.”
