Jones Calls For Consistency After Fantastic Victory

Oxford City picked up their first win in six games with a surprise victory over Hemel Hempstead - and boss Mark Jones has challenged his side to go on a run.

City headed into Saturday’s game desperate for a morale-boosting three points against a high-flying Hemel Hempstead outfit.

And that’s exactly what they got. Hemel keeper Laurie Walker was sent off in the 20th minute - with Oxford 1-0 up - and City went on to win 4-1.

The brilliant result takes Jones’ side four points clear of the bottom three and now he wants them to find some consistency.

“It’s a really big win for us,” Jones told BBC Radio Oxford. “We came into the game under a little bit of pressure because we haven’t started the year very well.

“Hemel are flying high and are a good side but we played well today and I think we deserved it. We managed the game very well.

“We need to take this into our next game at Truro, reproduce a similar performance and show some consistency.

“All we can do is look after ourselves, look to get points on the board and hope that the quality we have will make sure we are safe.”
