Iron Have Real Hope After Toppling Salford

Braintree’s new manager Danny Searle sees no reason why the Iron can’t pull off the great escape now.

The bottom club beat title chasing Salford City on Saturday - the fifth point they have taken from the promotion favourites so far this season.

Young striker Callum Morton scored the winner late on and it gives Braintree hope when they looked doomed at the turn of the year.

Of course last season Solihull Moors were equally adrift but completed a remarkable recovery.

Searle, who replaced Hakan Hayrettin at the helm when he left for Maidstone recently, thinks they now have a fighting chance.

“We have got that belief you need,” the manager said.

“The players are showing the kind of resilience needed and I’m delighted.

“Not just by the win, but by the performance too. We stood up and we were counted. We have been saying all along that we’re not down yet.

“Everybody was outstanding and it was a fully deserved three points.”

Although the Iron are eight points from safety, it was their second win in three matches after thrashing Barnet 4-0.
