In-Form Spitfires Are Starting To Take Flight At Last

By Steven Coney

Eastleigh secured their third straight win with a narrow victory at Maidstone United but boss Andy Hessenthaler admits his side rode their luck.

The Spitfires went a goal behind in the first minute at the Gallagher Stadium but ended up fighting back from behind twice to win 3-2.

It’s been a fantastic start to life under Hessenthaler with four wins and two draws in the new manager’s six games since stepping up to replace Richard Hill.

They are now only seven points adrift of the play-off places but Hessenthaler knows his side must improve if they are to be in the end of season shake-up.

“The performance was hard-working but it wasn’t where we need to be,” he told the club’s website. “When you’re giving goals away after a minute it’s always going to be difficult.

“The game didn’t really get going in the second half until near the end so credit to the players.

“We may have rode our luck a bit at the end. Maidstone are a good team, they passed the ball better than us and it wasn’t pretty at times but we got the three points.”
