Hawks' Skipper Stock To Hang Up His Boots In The New Year

Havant & Waterlooville captain Brian Stock is to retire from football in January, he has announced.

The former Burnley player has accepted a coaching job with Premier League AFC Bournemouth and will begin his new role in the New Year.

It brings down the curtain on a wonderful period on the south coast, one in which saw the 36-year-old lift the Ryman League and National League South title in back-to-back seasons.

His career lasted some 18 years, making 377 Football League appearances but he ending it where he was happy.

Stock told the club’s website: “When I first joined the club I could see how Lee Bradbury and Shaun Gale would like to manage the team and the club and the ambition of the club.

“It was the reason why I was happy to play for Havant; no one expected us to get promoted to the National League and we did it in a spectacular way. The memories of the last two to three years are on a parallel to what I’ve achieved in the rest of my career.

“To be able to be promoted five times in your career, three of those as captain is a special feeling.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the club, right the way through from the supporters to the players, the management and I can’t thank everyone enough to feel welcome and be able to captain this side over the past two to three years.”
