Eastleigh Mourn Loss Of Founder Derik Brooks

Eastleigh are devastated following the news that Derik Brooks, the club’s founder and hero to so many, has passed away.

Aged 94, Brooks was responsible for so much of the club’s success having stayed involved up until recently. He spend his last 72 years taking on a number of roles as the club moved through the Non-League divisions.

He is seen pictured here lifting the National League South trophy alongside captain Glen Southam in 2014.

Brooks took the club from playing on Southampton Common to their current Silverlake Stadium base.

The Spitfires will remember one of the club’s great figures this weekend when they face Hartlepool United.

A club statement read: “Derik was one of the founding members of what was then Swaythling Athletic and moved the Club to the current Ten Acres site in 1957. He remained involved, in many differing roles until his passing.

“He had a huge impact on the club’s progress and ‘The Spitfires’ remained close to Derik’s heart throughout his life.

“Derik will be sadly missed by everybody connected to the club, and our sincere condolences go to his wife Marion, his family and close friends.

“A tribute to Derik will be held before Saturday’s game against Hartlepool United at The Silverlake. Further details will follow in due course.”
