Doswell Ticked Off As Wood’s Corner Trick Works Again

Sutton United manager Paul Doswell was frustrated that Boreham Wood were able to snatch a late point because his players knew what was coming.

The Us were a few minutes away from starting 2018 superbly but Luke Garrard’s team pinched a point after another corner kick routine worked a treat.

Doswell said his players knew what Wood would do but couldn’t prevent them snatching a 1-1 draw.

“It’s very difficult with the number of matches we have been playing,” he said. “But it’s part of football, although the quality of the New Year’s Day games aren’t always great.

“The energy and the desire was there, we put everything into the game.

“It’s frustrating not to have held on. We knew the corner they would do, they did the same thing recently, and they have done it again.

“To have two points taken away from you is disappointing. The dressing room is quite quiet as you would expect.

“We thought we just about did enough to win but we can’t have too many complaints, maybe we didn’t do quite enough.”

Doswell wants this year to be as good for the club as the last one was.

“We have just got to stay in there for as long as possible and give ourselves the best chance going in March and April,” the manager said.

“It’s not an easy league this. We were worried a bit about second season syndrome but we have every chance of getting in the top seven.

“2017 was a wonderful year, it has been three great years - if 2018 can be anything near last year then great.”
