Davey Chooses To Make Permanent Wood Move

Boreham Wood have announced the capture of former Chelsea defender Alex Davey on a permanent deal.

The 6`3” centre-back joins from SkyBet League Two outfit Cheltenham Town, but has spent the season on-loan with Torquay United in the National League.

Davey began his career in the academy at Chelsea, joining at just 10-years-old and progressed through the youth ranks, to sign a professional contract in 2012.

On signing for the Wood, Davey told the club`s official website: “I am looking forward to it, although it was a tough decision to be fair, as I had come from Torquay and I liked my time there. But, it is Boreham Wood, it is close to home and they are pushing for promotion.

“When I have gone to teams halfway through the season, they have normally been in the bottom half, so it is a different mind-set to teams pushing on for promotion. Hopefully I can enjoy it and kick on with the team.

“The manager spoke to me on the phone and he sold it well to be fair, he sounded ambitious, which is good, and everyone was positive, so there was no reason to say no.

“It is probably the next step in my career to get myself back on track, I think that it is a good move and I am buzzing to start.”

The 23-year-old had several loan spells during his time with Chelsea, the first at Scunthorpe United in 2014/15, making thirteen appearances.

A former Scotland under-19 international, Davey has made seven appearances for his country at youth level, scoring once.

The former Chelsea man has also spent time on-loan with Peterborough United, and Crawley Town, either side of a stint in Norway with Stabæk.

On what he can bring to the side, Davey commented: “I would like to say that I am good on the ball, that is probably my best attribute, my ball play. I like to think that I am quite experienced now as well, throughout the leagues. It is a great team here, so hopefully I can add to it and help them to promotion.

“I have been to a few League One teams and League Two teams, as well as the spell over in Norway.

“I have had experience in different positions as well, across the back and in midfield, so I have gained quite a bit of experience over a short space of time, I am just hoping to kick on a little bit more”.
