Cox Backs His Lions To Be Up For The Relegation Fight

By Steven Coney

Paul Cox remains confident Guiseley can climb out of trouble in the Vanarama National League despite seeing his side fall to the bottom of the table.

The Lions were beaten 2-0 by Wrexham last Saturday and Torquay United’s home victory over Barrow saw the Gulls leapfrog them into 23rd.

Guiseley have lost four in a row and only have four wins to their name all season. Cox believes his side will need to win double that amount from their remaining 16 games if they are to remain in Non-League’s top-flight.

“We probably need to win half of our remaining games, but I believe we must all stick together,” the boss told the Telegraph & Argus.

“Being negative or downbeat doesn’t help. We have to fight for points and the supporters can help us.

“Going bottom may have changed the psychology for us, but the bigger picture remains unchanged, we are nine points from safety and need wins.

“However, we do have to play six of the teams who are fighting to stay up. I remain confident we can achieve our goal this season which is to stay in the National League.”
