BT Cameras Roll! We Look At What's Made Boreham Wood Tick

Boreham Wood host league leaders Macclesfield Town this coming Saturday with the game live on BT Sport from midday, writes Luke Turner.

The Wood have their eyes fixed at the prospect of the Football League as they currently occupy fifth place, with a five point buffer between themselves and Ebbsfleet who sit just outside the play-off places on goal difference.

Only three teams have won more games (16) this season than Luke Garrard’s side and another three points on the weekend could prove vital as they push for promotion.

As part of our build up to the live game, we've got to know a little bit more about what has made their season possibly the best they've ever had.

Let’s take a look at five of Boreham Wood’s victories that have been key in sustaining their play-off berth over the course of the campaign.

Boreham Wood 2-1 Aldershot Town (19th August)

Let’s skip right back to the start of the 17/18 campaign. Wood picked up seven points from their opening four matches before they entertained Aldershot who were three points ahead.

First-half goals from Bruno Andrade and Shaun Jeffers ended the unbeaten start made by the Shots, as a consolation goal in the 51st minute didn’t make any difference.

Dover Athletic 0-1 Boreham Wood (12th September)

Beating the sides around you is paramount if you’re going to push for promotion or stave off the threat of relegation.

Garrard’s men did just that, taking all three points away at Dover. Blair Turgott netted just before half-time to secure a narrow win as Wood sat two points off the top after 10 games.

Dagenham & Redbridge 2-3 Boreham Wood (9th January)

2018 began with three successive away trips. Hard-fought draws at Sutton United and Leyton Orient came before a trip to the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

The Daggers were above Boreham Wood in the table, but had only won one in five – time to take advantage?

In a five-goal thriller, Wood did just that as goals from top scorer Andrade (2) and Angelo Balanta moved them up to fifth and above their opponents. Expectation increased once again.

Ebbsfleet 0-3 Boreham Wood (27th January)

Two successive home defeats to Gateshead and promotion rivals Dover knocked Garrett’s side back out of the play-off places – albeit only on goal difference.

Their reaction? An assertive three-goal success on the road at Ebbsfleet. Balanta, Jamie Turley and Joe Quigley all getting on the scoresheet.

Boreham 1-0 Maidstone (20th February)

We leave you with Boreham Wood’s most recent success – a narrow, but resilient win against the Stones.

At this stage of the season, it’s all about collecting the points no matter how it’s done. Described by Garrard as an ‘ugly’ victory, Wood made it four straight wins and picked up their third clean sheet from that run.

It was Balanta who won it with his ninth goal of the season as the Wood continue to march on and certainly seem to have that promotion steel as we enter the business end.
