Bluebirds On The Trophy Trail Again But Face Brackley Test

By Sam Elliott

Barrow are passionate about reliving their 2010 FA Trophy glory moment - but know they have one of the more demanding ties this weekend to get through before thoughts can turn to a Wembley repeat.

It’s eight seasons since the Bluebirds won at the National Stadium, beating Stevenage 2-1 in extra time to seal one of the club’s most memorable days in recent years.

It’s been barren since then but new manager Ady Pennock wants all that to change this season.

To do that they have to get past Brackley - going for the National League North title. It is one of our FA Trophy feature matches across our social media platforms this weekend.

Kevin Wilkin’s third placed side love a cup upset and in an Trophy campaign full of surprises so far Barrow will have to go some to make sure their name is not listed in amongst the scalps of 2017-18.

Pennock said: “This is one of the most difficult ties we could have been given - away to a side so near the top of a very good National League North.

“We want to get this club back to Wembley and the FA Trophy is important to us. It’s an opportunity to get a fantastic piece of silverware for the club.

“But Brackley are strong at home and have a very good players. They’ll see a National League team coming down and fancy a go at us that’s for sure.”

Good thing for Pennock then that he’s managed to totally transform the club’s away form since taking over.

The worst in the league by far when he took over from Micky Moore in November, Barrow have since won four times on the road in the National League alone.

“We’re six unbeaten on the road and we need to make that seven on Saturday,” he said.

“Wembley is a good carrot but you need to get through challenging games like this if you want to win trophies.”
