Tranmere Striker Receives North West Football Award

Tranmere Rovers striker Andy Cook last night collected the ‘National League Player of the Year’ at the Leesa Northwest Football Awards, held at Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

Cook was nominated for the award after scoring 23 goals for Rovers and helping the side to second position in the National League during the 2016-17 season.

The Rovers man was up against Ryan Astles of Chester FC, Barrow AFC defender Moussa Diarra and Macclesfield Town defender George Pilkington who were all shortlisted for the accolade.

Following a public vote, the winners were announced last night at a gala awards ceremony at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Rovers also had candidates in two other categories at last night’s awards.
In the ‘Community Club of the Year – Non-Premier League’, Tranmere Rovers in the Community picked up a highly commended award with the overall award being won by Wigan Athletic Community Trust.

And shortlisted in the ‘Rising Star’ category, Ben Tollitt was pipped to the award by Manchester City’s 17-year-old starlet Phil Foden, who won the `golden boot` at the recent Under-17 World Cup, helping the England team lift the trophy.
