Something For The Weekend: National League North

By Steve Whitney

There are fewer league fixtures this weekend due to the Buildbase FA Trophy, but three in the Vanarama National League North have great significance at either end of the table.

Alfreton Town v Darlington

Alfreton host the Quakers at the Impact Arena with only a point separating the sides at kick-off.

John McDermott`s Reds may be three places higher than Tommy Wright`s visitors in the table, but there`s only one point between them.

The Quakers suffered a last-gasp home defeat to leaders Salford City on Wednesday night and go into the contest with just one win in ten games.

Alfreton will be buoyed by last weekend`s 3-0 win over basement side North Ferriby United, but this is certainly an early relegation `six-pointer`!

Southport v Leamington

The same could be said for the game at the Merseyrail Community Stadium as fourth-bottom Southport take on the fifteenth-placed Brakes.

After a decent festive period, Kevin Davies` Port side went down to a 1-0 defeat to FC United of Manchester last time out and, having only a one-point advantage over the bottom three, with be desperate for three points.

Paul Holleran`s side have drawn their last three matches, but are unbeaten in four, yet are still only three points above the drop zone.

And he will have a new striker in his ranks in Crewe`s Daniel Udoh/

York City v Bradford Park Avenue

With the top teams in the divisions in Trophy action eighth meets seventh at Bootham Crescent in the top game of the day.

Only one point separates the sides going into the match and there`s also only a one-goal difference between Martin Gray and Mark Bower`s teams, so a tight affair is anticipated.
